PAPA ROACH Singer Gets Behind DIE TRYING
June 13, 2003PAPA ROACH frontman Jacoby Shaddix is reportedly teaming up with label Island Def Jam to promote Sacramento, California's DIE TRYING, who released their self-titled debut album on Tuesday (June 10). The band's first single "Oxygen's Gone" is currently at Number 33 on the Radio & Records singles chart.
Shaddix heard the band's music early on, and fronted them the money to record a demo called "Sparrows". He said he took them under his wing and got them their record deal.
"I produced their demo and we got them a record deal on Island Def Jam Records, and our imprint name is called El Tonal," Jacoby said.
Since DIE TRYING's inception, the band has frequently been an opening act for PAPA ROACH, including at the June 2002 Memorial Auditorium show where PAPA ROACH introduced their own "Lovehatetragedy" album. Shaddix's mentoring and multiplatinum success gives the members of DIE TRYING hope that they, too, can realize their rock 'n' roll fantasies.
"It definitely lit the fire under us," said DIE TRYING vocalist Jassen about PAPA ROACH's success. "Watching your friend doing what you want to do while you're sitting home was definitely a driving force in the dedication for the band."
"Die Trying" was produced by Neal Avron and it was mixed by Jay Baumgardner. The band will tour with SALIVA and MANMADE GOD this summer before hitting the road with HOOBASTANK later shortly after.
